The Natural History Museum’s mineralogical collections comprise separate collections of minerals, gems, rocks, meteorites and ores. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the world and with its long history is perhaps, in culmination, the most scientifically studied mineral collection in existence. It contains around 500,000 rocks, gems and minerals, including 5,000 meteorites. These specimens help us better understand the evolution of our planet. The Museum houses one of the world's finest collections of meteorites. The Natural History Museum is a world-leading science centre and one of the UK’s favourite days out.
